Vatican City, May 20 (EFE).- Miracles happen, but you have to pray with "all your heart" and in a "courageous, humble and strong" way to get them to occur, Pope Francis said Monday.
The pontiff spoke about miracles during Mass in the chapel of the Santa Marta residence, where he is living.
Miracles do not happen unless people open up their hearts and "let Jesus have control over things," the pope said.
Pope Francis told the story of an electrician in his native Argentina who learned that his 7-year-old daughter was ill and had been given only a few hours to live by doctors.
The electrician, a man of strong faith, headed to the shrine of Our Lady of Lujan, the patron saint of Argentina, and spent the night praying for his daughter to be cured.
The man returned to the hospital the next morning and found his wife crying tears of joy because the little girl's fever had broken, she was breathing normally and was on her way to a full recovery, the pope said.
"These things happen, miracles exist. But it is necessary to pray with the heart," Pope Francis said.
