Terror suspected in hacking death of Briton

Paris, May 22 (EFE).- Officials see "strong indications" that Wednesday's gruesome murder in London of a man thought to be a British soldier was a terrorist incident, UK Prime Minister David Cameron said here.

"It is the most appalling crime," Cameron said during a joint press conference with French President Fran├žois Hollande at the Elysee Palace.

British media said that two men pounced on, hacked and stabbed the soldier shouting "God is great" in the London neighborhood of Woolwich.

Armed police rushed to the scene and shot both attackers, who are now in custody.

A video broadcast by ITV, filmed at the site where the attack occurred, shows a man with bloody hands holding a machete and a knife and speaking to the camera.

"The only reasons we killed this man this is because Muslims are dying daily. This British soldier is an eye for an eye a tooth for tooth," he said.

"We apologize that women had to see this today but in our lands our women have to see the same. You people will never be safe. Remove your government. They don't care about you," the attacker said.

The speaker, a black man with a British accent, also shouted: "We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you."
