Entertainment Desk, Jun 3 (EFE).- Penelope Cruz will be the oldest actress to play a "Bond Girl," according to Britain's Daily Mail, but the Spanish beauty's representatives in Madrid refused to either confirm or deny the rumors.

The 39-year-old Cruz, who is pregnant with her second child, will co-star with Daniel Craig in the 24th Bond film, which will be directed by Sam Mendes.

"The producers have tried to get Penelope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments," a source told the British newspaper.

The next installment in the 007 franchise is expected to have a budget of £100 million ($153 million).

If Cruz takes the part, she will be 40 when filming starts in the summer of 2014, making her the oldest Bond girl to ever grace the screen.

That distinction currently belongs to British actress Honor Blackman, who was 39 when she played Pussy Galore in 1964's "Goldfinger."

The new film will follow box office smash "Skyfall," whose villain was played by Spanish actor Javier Bardem, Cruz's husband.
