London, Jun 6 (EFE).- Manchester City announced the signing of Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho, who has spent the past eight seasons with Shakhtar Donetsk, to a four-year contract.

The 28-year-old Fernandinho has already passed his medical and will wear No. 25 at Man City, which expects to name Chile's Manuel Pellegrini as the club's new manager in the coming days.

Shakhtar, a Ukrainian-league club, said the signing cost City 40 million euros ($53 million).

"This is a change, a challenge and a chance that I have been waiting a long time for. Playing in the Premier League for City is like a dream," he was quoted as saying on his new club's Web site.

"My intention is to win all the titles. There's big ambition, the team is very strong, and so is the greatness of the club and the supporters. Professionally this is a spectacular thing. Playing for a huge club in a huge league makes me so happy. I hope I will be able to repay City for what they have done for me," Fernandinho added.

The Brazilian arrives at Manchester City after winning seven Ukrainian-league titles and a UEFA Cup crown as a member of Shakhtar.

The move is the second offseason signing by the Citizens, who had announced the arrival of Spanish international Jesus Navas days earlier.

Manchester City, which failed to defend its 2011-12 Premier League crown and did not capture any other titles this past season, has spent more on signings than any other English club so far this summer.

Besides Navas, Fernandinho's other star teammates at City will include Argentines Sergio "Kun" Agüero and Carlos Tevez and Spain's David Silva.
