International Sports Desk, Jun 20 (EFE).- Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, Carla Suarez and Garbiñe Muguruza advanced to the semifinals of the Topshelf Open in 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, with victories on Thursday.
Garcia-Lopez scored a comfortable 6-4, 6-1 win over Czech Jan Hernych, breaking his opponent five times during the lopsided match. He will next take on second-seeded Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka, a 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) winner over France's Jeremy Chardy, in Friday's first men's semifinal.
Another Spaniard, Roberto Bautista-Agut, lost 6-4, 6-4 to Belgium's Xavier Malisse, who will play France's Nicolas Mahut in the other semifinal.
In the women's draw, Suarez, the No. 3 seed, shrugged off a slow start to defeat Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday. Her semifinal opponent will be Romania's Simona Halep, who cruised past Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko 6-3, 6-1.
Muguruza, meanwhile, recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory over second-seeded Slovak Dominika Cibulkova thanks in large part to fending off seven of the eight break points she faced.
The Spanish qualifier will square off against fourth-seeded Belgian Kirsten Flipkens on Friday.
The Topshelf Open is a tune-up tournament for Wimbledon, which gets underway on Monday.
