Madrid, Jul 10 (EFE).- Tenor Placido Domingo, hospitalized in Madrid for a pulmonary embolism, said in a message on his Facebook page that he will feel "much better soon," adding that he is "extremely grateful and moved by the demonstrations of love and good wishes received from all of you."

Domingo, who was admitted to the Rosario Clinic on Monday, "is progressing favorably," according to what sources close to the family told Efe on Wednesday.

"The saddest thing of all is to find myself in the city of my birth and not be able to sing for the Madrid public. I will feel much better soon. Many thanks to all from the bottom of my heart," said the 72-year-old tenor.

Domingo's hospitalization will prevent him from singing at the Spanish Royal Theater in the opera "Il postino," in which he was to have portrayed Chilean Poet Pablo Neruda starting on July 17. As a result, understudy Vicente Ombuena will take over for him in the role.

The physician attending Domingo at the Rosario Clinic ordered his patient to take a "forced" rest for three or four weeks to ensure a full recovery, the Royal Theater announced on Tuesday.

"The return ... to his artistic commitments remains subject to the speed with which he can get better and recover his characteristic strength and energy," Domingo's representatives said in a communique released by the Royal Theater.
