U.S. Sports Desk, Aug 5 (EFE).- Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro defeated American John Isner 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the final of the Citi Open in Washington to win his third title at the event.
"It's amazing. I'm so happy to win here once again," the 24-year-old Del Potro said after Sunday's match. "Always when you win a tournament, it's special, it's big. And after Wimbledon, to be in my first tournament on hard court, it means a lot."
The world No. 7 lost an epic semifinal match at Wimbledon this year against world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
Del Potro, the top seed in Washington, was able to bounce back after dropping the first set and deal with the 28-year-old Isner's big serve on the fast surface.
"I'm looking forward to Montreal, Cincinnati and the U.S. Open," Del Potro said. "That gives me big confidence to keep trying and getting closer to the top guys."
On the women's side, Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova successfully defended her Citi Open title by defeating Germany's Andrea Petkovic 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) in the final on Sunday.
"Now that it's over, I can really say I feel so good here. I love playing on this stadium, the crowd is great, everything's perfect - I really can't think of one bad thing to say about this tournament!" Rybarikova said.
