Tegucigalpa, Aug 7 (EFE).- An attorney who revealed several months ago that he was receiving death threats was gunned down in northern Honduras, police said.
Jose Angel Perez was murdered Tuesday by three unidentified subjects.
The 35-year-old lawyer was killed in the northern city of San Pedro Sula.
Perez returned to Honduras on Sunday after spending more than two months in the United States, where he traveled after receiving the death threats, media reports said.
Investigators do not have any leads in the case, police said.
Attorneys have not been spared by the wave of violence in Honduras, where an average of 20 people are killed each day, national and foreign organizations said.
At least 65 lawyers have been murdered between 2010 and 2013, with Perez's killing included in the total, the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner said.
Honduras had a homicide rate of 85.5 per 100,000 inhabitants last year, with an average of 598 homicides monthly and 20 killings daily, the United Nations said.
