42 Die in attacks in Iraq's capital

Baghdad, Aug 28 (EFE).- At least 42 people were killed and more than 150 others wounded in a series of attacks Wednesday around Baghdad, Iraqi police spokesmen told Efe.

The worst incident occurred in Latifiya, a city located about 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) south of the capital, where gunmen killed seven members of a family.

A car bomb exploded outside a movie theater in Baghdad al Jadida, an area in the southern section of the capital, killing five people and wounding 15 others.

Four soldiers were killed and three others wounded when a roadside bomb exploded in Al-Mada'in, located 30 kilometers (about 19 miles) south of Baghdad.

Two other car bombs were detonated in the northeastern section of the capital, killing four people and wounding 15 others, while four people died and 20 others were wounded when a car bomb exploded in the Al Dulei district of northwestern Baghdad.

Four people were killed and 21 others wounded by two car bombs that exploded in Jisr Diyala, an area in southern Baghdad.

The past few months have been the bloodiest in five years in Iraq, with about 1,000 people dying in violent incidents in July alone.
