Madrid, Sep 3 (EFE).- The number of registered unemployed people in Spain fell to 4.69 million in August, dropping for the sixth straight month, the Employment and Social Security Ministry said Tuesday.

Registered unemployment had not dropped in August, a month that is traditionally bad for the labor market because summer season employment contracts expire, since 2000.

Registered unemployment, however, rose by 73,149 people, or 1.58 percent, on a year-on-year basis in August.

The number of registered unemployed people rose by 38,179 in August 2012, while it fell by 31 last month.

Registered unemployment rose in the service sector by 0.37 percent and in the industrial sector by 0.66 percent, while it dropped by 0.41 percent in construction and 1.1 percent in agriculture.

Registered unemployment fell by 2.21 percent last month for workers under the age of 25 and it declined by 2.44 percent for workers with no previous employment history.

Unemployment for men edged up 0.05 percent to 2.28 million and it fell 0.05 percent for women to 2.4 million, compared to July.

Spain has been mired in a deep recession since 2008 due to the financial crisis caused by the bursting of the real estate bubble.
