San Juan, Dec 23 (EFE).- The U.S. Coast Guard is looking for six Cubans in the Caribbean who were trying to reach Puerto Rico from the neighboring Dominican Republic when their boat capsized.
The Coast Guard contingent in Puerto Rico said Monday in a communique that it learned of the shipwreck when a relative of one of the Cubans, who lives in Florida, alerted it to the attempted crossing.
The relative said the boat was carrying three men and three women and that it had not arrived in Puerto Rico after setting sail from Juan Dolio Beach on Dec. 17.
Since the authorities began their search last Saturday, the Coast Guard's emergency management teams have tried unsuccessfully to find survivors in waters south of the Dominican Republic and in the Mona Passage, west of Puerto Rico.
