Buenos Aires, Jan 21 (EFE).- Former Argentine professional soccer player Osvaldo Ardiles is recovering from injuries suffered in a traffic accident in the Falkland Islands, where he was filming a documentary for an international sports network, media reports said Tuesday.

Ardiles, who is under observation at a hospital in Puerto Argentino, was with another former player on the Argentine national selection, Ricardo Villa, who has already been released from the medical center.

Both ex-soccer stars, who played on the sky blue and white squad that won the 1978 World Cup championship, had traveled to the archipelago to make the documentary "30 por 30," being produced by the ESPN television network as part of the runup to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The first reports indicate that Ardiles lost control of the vehicle Monday while driving downhill on a slippery slope.

Ardiles and Villa played with the Argentine clubs Racing and Huracan, respectively, and were English soccer standouts in the 1980s.
