Paris, May 26 (EFE).- Russia's Maria Sharapova cruised into the second round of the French Open with an easy 6-2, 6-1 win on Monday over countrywoman Ksenia Pervak.
Sharapova, the 2012 champion and last year's finalist, needed just an hour to beat the 22-year-old qualifier.
The 27-year-old Sharapova's next opponent will be Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova, who beat Germany's Annika Beck 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday.
The French Open is the second Grand Slam event of the tennis season and the only one played on clay.
