International Sports Desk, Jul 26 (EFE).- Argentina's Juan Monaco advanced to the final of the Swiss Open, played in the ski resort of Gstaad, with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) victory Saturday over Dutchman Robin Haase.

The Argentine cruised through the first set by breaking Haase's serve on three occasions. He encountered more opposition from the Dutchman in the second set but won it in a tiebreaker to wrap up the match in just under one hour and 45 minutes.

Monaco reached his first final of the season and will seek his ninth career title on Sunday against the winner of Saturday's second semifinal, in which 38th-ranked Spaniard Fernando Verdasco is taking on countryman and world No. 71 Pablo Andujar.

The 30-year-old Argentine, who missed the end of last season with a wrist injury and has struggled to regain his form this year, has seen his ranking plummet from No. 42 in January to No. 105 at the start of this week.

Monaco, a former top-10 player, had not been out of the top 100 in the ATP Tour rankings since 2006.
