In the continuous drive of targeted operation, law-enforcement agencies booked at least 35 suspects here on Tuesday.
Crime Investigation Department claimed to have arrested two suspects during a targeted raid in Landhi area. The suspects were identified as Sher Zaman and Murad Ali. Officials also claimed to have recovered two hand grenades, two TT pistols and a rifle from their possession.
Addressing a press conference, CID SP Mazhar Mashwani said that the arrests were made after an exchange of fire when police conducted a raid on a tip-off. The arrested suspects were involved in various cases of crime including attack and killing of law enforcers and extortion.
He said that the arrested men had no link with the Taliban but they used the name of Taliban and had established their gang comprised on five members to carry out the criminal activities in the name of Taliban in Landhi, Quaidabad and Sherpao Colony areas. He further said that their three group members were killed during an encounter with the local police few months ago.
As many as eight suspects were taken into custody during targeted operation conducted by police in Soldier Bazaar, Lasbella and Albela Chowk areas. Heavy contingents of police commandoes, elite force also participated in the operation. The operation was launched following the attack on the traffic police post, Lasbella in which two cops were killed another wounded.
Meanwhile, Rangers also claimed to have arrested 25 suspects during targeted raids in parts of city, including Kati Pahari, Qasba Colony, Noorani Basti and Korangi areas.
Ranger’s spokesman said 66 weapons of different calibers including sub machineguns, rifles and a large quantity of ammunition were also recovered. The detainees were being questioned by shifting to undisclosed location while none of them was handed over to the police till the filing of this news story.
