High Court issues stay order to postpone Nasheed’s trial

High Court has issued a stat order to delay the trial against former President Mohamed Nasheed held in the Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court until the conclusion of the case filed at the High Court by Nasheed regarding the legitimacy of Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court.

While the High Court issued stay order to postpone Nasheed’s trial at the Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court Nasheed recently stated that his trial cannot continue without the conclusion of the three stages of appeal. He said that the hearing cannot be held even though the hearing was scheduled to be held next Thursday.

Nasheed appealed the High Court challenging the legitimacy of the Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court. In the stay order the High Court stated that the Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court should delay the trial until the High Court decides on the appeal filed by Nasheed.
