Wapda to make crippled power houses usable: Chief


Wapda Chairman Syed Raghib Abbas Shah said that non-functional powerhouses would be made functional to meet the increased demand of electricity during upcoming summer season.

He was talking to a delegation of CBA Pegham Union during his visit to Faisalabad. He said that the total generation of Wapda had increased from 7,900 to 8,300 megawatts while during peak hours from 5 to 9pm it was generating 9,300 megawatt of electricity.

“However,” he said, “we have to take measures to bridge the gap between demand and supply of electricity. At a high level meeting, important decisions to arrange gas and furnace oil for closed power houses would be taken in consultation with chief executive officer of Fesco.”

He added that the second phase would be launched at different cities to provide residential facilities to the Wapda employees. About house acquisition, the chairman said that a uniform and merit base policies would be adopted by all distribution companies. He pledged immediate recruitment of children under the employees’ son quota, however made it clear that no one would be allowed to misuse the facility.

He also pledged that TA/DA would be paid to the employees who do extra duties during Muharram and other important events. He assured the employees that their genuine problems would be resolved as top priority but union should also desist from supporting the persons involved in illegal acts. A delegation led by Mian Iftikhar Ahmad General Secretary Wapda Employees Pegham Union also submitted him their demands.
