The Istanbul Workers' Health and Job Safety Assembly has recently revealed in a report that 55 people were killed in work-related accidents across Turkey in March alone.
The provinces with the greatest number of work-related deaths were Istanbul, Izmir and Sakarya. Most of the killed workers were employed in heavy industry sector businesses, such as mining. Speaking to the press about the report, Ibrahim Arikan from the assembly reacted negatively towards a recent regulation issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, saying it allows 16 year olds to work in businesses that produce plastic materials and tiles.
