10 teams to see action in PBA Youngstars

Defending champion University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Baby Rams is set to defend the title it won last year in the 2nd Coca-Cola PBA Youngsters Basketball League-Bacolod Leg which will kicks off April 20 to May 7 at the West Negros University gym here.

The Baby Rams have its hands full against nine other teams including host West Negros University Baby Mustangs; Mansilingan Christian Academy (MCA) Eagles; Tangub Christian Academy; The Legend; St. John’s Institute Baby Falcons; War Horse Hoopers, Stallions; Big Shot for Jesus and last year runner-up University of St. La Salle Baby Stingers.

Aside from defending champion, also highly favored to advance to the regional finals are the Baby Mustangs and MCA Eagles to represent Bacolod City and Negros Occidental on May 10 to 12, 2013 tourney to be held either in Iloilo City or Cebu City. The national finals will be played in Metro Manila from May 19 to 26.

To form a team of 12 players, the players should age 13 to 16 years old. Every team will consist of three 13 year-old born in 2000; three 14 year-old born in 1999; three 15-year-old born in 1998; and, three 16-year-old born in 1997.

The teams will be divided into two groups to play in a single round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the crossover semifinals with the top finishers to battle for the championship.

The tournament is bankrolled by Coca-Cola aimed at providing a wider avenue to search for the next top young basketball players in the country as their commitment to promote healthy and active living, and reach out to aspiring basketball stars from different cities, provinces, and municipalities in the country though the grassroots program.

Supervising the Bacolod leg are Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP)-Negros Occidental chairman Anthony Carlo Agustin as the tournament director and assisted by his assistants Jose Dante Albao and Art Alegarbes.
