Top legislators from the G20 member countries gathered Thursday in Mexico City for a two-day forum on economic recovery.

Other topics for the two-day event include the fight against corruption, food security, climate change, water management and energy generation, according to a statement posted on the forum's official website by Ernesto Cordero Arroyo, president of the Mexican Senate.

The G20 Speakers' Consultation Forum, now in its fourth year, has become an integral part of the G20 consultation mechanism and Mexico will continue to make the forum a proper platform for inter-parliament exchanges between G20 members, Arroyo said at the opening ceremony Thursday morning.

The previous three such forums were held respectively in Canada's Ottawa, South Korea's Seoul and Saudi Arabia's capital city of Riyadh.

The G20, formally launched in September 1999, groups 19 countries plus the European Union. Collectively, the G20 economies account for more than 80 percent of the world's economic output, 80 percent of the global trade and two-thirds of the world population.
