Extortionists kill 2 in Noakhali

Two people, including a woman, were shot dead and five others injured by some extortionists at Jagadishpur village in Begumganj upazila on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Ismail Hossain Khalil, 40 and his sister-in-law Setara Begum, 32 of the village. Witnesses said some local extortions led by Sabuj, son of Lokman Hossain, demanded Tk 2 lakh from Ismail Hossain, elder brother of Saudi expatriate Nurnabi, as Ismail was supervising the construction work of his brother’s building. Ismail refused to give them extortion money.

Sabuj attacked Ismail on his way to a local bazar at 10:30 am. Hearing his scream, when Ismail’s family members rushed in to save him Sabuj opened fire on them, leaving Ismail, his sister-in-law Setara Begum(Nurunnabi’s wife), Parvin Akther,30, Rozina,28, Aklima,28, Monwara,26 and Shilpi,22 bullet-wounded.

The injured were rushed to Noakhali General Hospital where the doctors declared Ismail and Setara Begum dead. Nazim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Begumganj thana confirmed the incident. Police sent the bodies to hospital morgue for autopsy.
