The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) is now ready with its security plan for the 2013 midterm polls. ICPO director, S/Supt. Ruperto Floro announced that security personnel will be deployed to the city’s 66 polling centers and 350 clustered precincts.
Also, a civil disturbance team will be pre-positioned at the canvassing area situated at the Social Hall of the Division of City Schools here taking into account what happened during the 2010 elections.
Tension was high when supporters of incumbent Congressman Jerry P. Treñas and Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog cordoned the canvassing area to prevent the transport of a laptop computer containing the result in one clustered precinct to the Comelec central office.
The transport was necessary to open the card and retrieve the result. Meantime, Floro added that no special treatment will be given to Jaro district that has been included in the election watchlist areas(EWAS).
Its inclusion to the EWAS was due to the killing of mayoral candidate, Luis Mondia from Pulupandan, Negros Occidental in the said district in 2010. The director believed that Mondia was just chanced upon by the assassins when he was in Jaro.
Mondia was approaching their service vehicle after attending the Ash Wednesday mass on February 17, 2010 with his wife and granddaughter when approached and shot at close range by the lone gunman.
