Installation of its own points of Presence was announced by Telecom Namibia

Telecom Namibia yesterday announced that the installation of its own international points of presence (PoPs) in two European capitals, connected to the West African Cable System (Wacs) undersea cable, is making good progress.

A media statement availed to Nampa the PoPs in Frankfurt (Germany) and London (United Kingdom) are expected to be up and running before the end of March this year.

The PoP service being rolled out follows the signing of an agreement between Telecom Namibia and a Jasco Group company, NewTelco South Africa, which is a joint venture with German-based co-location specialists NewTelco GmbH, providing an interconnection hub in the Sub-Saharan region with a neutral service, for global inter-connectivity and reliable, high quality of service.

Frans Ndoroma, the managing director of Telecom Namibia, was quoted as saying in the statement they visited the sites in Frankfurt and London where they were shown the installation in progress and is happy with the progress made.

The actual completion is scheduled for the end March 2013.

Ndoroma said these PoPs are an extension of Namibia’s network in Germany and the United Kingdom, which means Namibian customers will hop onto their network right in London and Frankfurt and need not be carried by third parties.

OTJIWARONGO; The 2013 The Namibian Newspaper Cup tournament involving under-20 football teams from all 13 regions of the country kicked off at the Paresis Sports Stadium yesterday morning.

The tournament ends on Monday with the final.

All matches were preceded by a moment of silence in honour of the Omaheke Regional Governor, Rapama Kamehozu who passed away last Saturday in Windhoek after a long illness.

Kamehozu will be buried today in Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region where he hails from.

In the first match of the day, Omaheke beat Omusati four goals to nil (4-0).

Defending champions Erongo defeated Caprivi 2-0, while hosts Otjozondjupa drew 0-0 with Ohangwena.
