The quality assurance department at Nizwa Hospital organised a two-day training workshop recently on implementing the 5S system in healthcare.
Around 110 officials from Nizwa Hospital and other healthcare institutions in Dakhliyah governorate attended the workshop.
Explaining the 5S system, Khalfan Khamis al Kharusi, head of the quality assurance department, said, “The five S stand for sort, set in order, shine, standardise and sustain.” He said that it is an organised process of creating a safe and clean environment at the workplace.
“Improving the quality and safety is a key to healthy work environment and 5S would ensure that,” he added.
Othman Mohammed al Mayasi, quality supervisor, Directorate General of Health Services in Batinah governorate taught the trainees on how to sort out necessary from the unnecessary so that the workplace can have more space. Setting in order is important as it saves a lot of time. The third pillar is shine, which is ensuring a clean workplace.
Mayasi also explained to trainees the importance of standardisation and sustenance in any work environment.
