The Supreme Court has disposed of 363 cases during the outgoing week from March 23 to 29, while 290 new cases were instituted during the said period, thus the backlog with the apex court stands at 18841.
According to the figures released by the apex court, the backlog in the apex Court on March 22 was 18914 cases, as 290 new cases were instituted during the outgoing week. The progressive total of pending cases on March 22 came to 19204 cases. Out of these,363 cases were disposed of during this period.
The backlog on March 29 remains 18841 cases. The Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various Benches at the principal seat, Islamabad and Branch Registries to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog. The Chief Justice and the Judges of Supreme Court remained committed to accelerate disposal of the cases and diminish the backlog.
