Alleged rapist appears in Walvis Bay Magistrate's Court

A 31-year-old male made his first appearance in the Walvis Bay Magistrates court on charges of rape on Friday.

Lester Dyers was arrested on Wednesday after he allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl in the Kuisebmund residential area here around 03H00 earlier the same day.

The accused was denied bail and remain in Police custody with the matter being reprimanded to 23 April 2013.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s acting Crime Investigations’ Coordinator for the Erongo Region, Detective Inspector Erastus Iikuyu told Nampa on Thursday that the victim allegedly went drinking with the older man earlier the evening.

He explained that after the victim went home, she fell asleep and woke up after the suspect gained access to her shack.

Iikuyu indicated that accused then had sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent.
