Denouncing the detention of top BNP leaders, including its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Islami Oikya Jote on Sunday said the government has turned the country into a large prison.
The party leaders observed that the present government is pushing the country towards destruction in a planned way. It has turned the country into a prison by killing the anti-government leaders indiscriminately, filing cases against and arresting them.
They made remarks at a meeting held at the party headquarters at Lalbagh in the city with its chief Maulana Abdul Latif Nezami in the chair.
The leaders of the Islami Oiky Jote, a component of the BNP-led 18-party alliance, said country’s image is being damaged abroad due to the rampage, killings, making people disappeared and torture unleashed by the government forces.
Observing that Bangladeshis are being sent back home from the Middle-East countries and country’s economy is under a threat, they said the arrest of the BNP leaders under such circumstances is part of a conspiracy.
They said a vested quarter of ignorant and atheists are conspiring against Islam. They also threatened to sue veteran Islamic scholar Shah Ahmed Shafi. “However, the real followers of Quran and Hadith aren’t afraid of attack or case.” Among others, Abul Hasnat Amini and general secretary Moulana Mufti Foyjullah were present at the meeting.
