MKA appreciates Hefajat for keeping Jamaat-Shibir at bay

Home Minister MK Alamgir on Saturday praised Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh for not allowing BNP-Jamaat and some other political parties to be there on their podium during their Dhaka rally.

“BNP-Jamaat had wanted to use the platform, but they failed to do so as the Hefajat men didn’t allow them to stand on the podium,” he said. The Home Minister also greeted the Hefajat activists for completing the long march peacefully. He conveyed appreciation to the law enforcing agencies for their patience and dutifulness toward holding such a long march successfully.

MK Alamgir said this while briefing reporters at his office on completion of his marathon meeting with some of his cabinet colleagues. Regarding the six-point demand of the Hefajat, he said these demands would be taken into consideration through the authorities concerned.

The Home Minister also termed hartal illogical and illegal, and asked them to refrain from calling such hartal. MK Alamgir, however, mentioned that the Dhaka Siege programme would not bring any positive result and called upon the Hefajat activists to come forward and sit for discussions.

Responding to a query, he said Jamaat-Shibir men attacked Shahriar Kabir and Muntasir Mamun at Mohakhali. He also mentioned that the responsible persons would be traced through proper inquiry and punishment would be confirmed for them.

MK Alamgir dismissed the allegation that the government obstructed Hefajat activists from coming to Dhaka from across the country. “Changing the schedules of buses, trains and launches is the internal matter of the owners and the respective authorities. The government has nothing to do with that.”

About Ershad’s joining the Hefajat rally and drinking water supply, the Home Minister said he was an autocratic ruler and people do not trust him.

Some ministers and state ministers sat in a meeting at the home ministry to discuss the current political situation in the country. The meeting started around 2:30 pm and continued till 4:30 pm.

Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, Railway Minister Mujibul Haque, Food Minister Abdur Razzaque, State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku, State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam and State Minister for LGRD Jahangir Kabir Nanak attended the meeting.
