A patient half century from West Indies batsman Narsingh Deonarine guided Guyana to a three wicket win over Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) in their sixth round, day/night match in the Regional Super50 at the Guyana National Stadium here Thursday.
Deonarine struck three fours in a knock of 51 as Guyana, who lost three early wickets, coasted to 178 for seven after CCC was bowled out for 175 in 48.3 overs.
The highlight of CCC batting was a 96 ball 58 from Anthony Alleyne which was decorated with three boundaries.
Guyana stumbled on the chase and lost three wickets before the 10th over with just 50 runs on the board.
Shrivnarine Chanderpaul went for two, Ramnaresh Sarwan five while Trevon Griffith began checking the slide before offering Kesrick Williams a return catch after facing 39 deliveries and scoring 33.
Leon Johnson and Deonarine, who was named man of the match, teamed up to rebuild the innings by pushing Guyana past the 100 run mark and picking up odd boundaries and singles through the gaps.
Johnson was caught and bowled by Nekoli Parris for 37 to end a 68 run partnership with Deonarine that put the home team on course for victory.
Earlier, CCC batting first lost three early wickets including that of Kyle Corbin for 22 who was bowled by Davendra Bishoo .
Apart from Alleyneâ€™s half century Parris was the other significant contributor with a score of 31.
Alleyne and Parris added 57 runs for the fourth wicket to pull the visitors from a precarious 59 for three.
But the students did not capitalize on the recovery and lost their last five wickets for 46 runs as Guyana incher closer to a semi-final birth.
