Pakistan placed with Malaysia in Asia Cup pool

The green shirts will face tough resistance from rising Malaysian hockey team as the two outfits have been placed in Pool A along with minnows Japan and Chinese Taipei in the 9th Men’s Asia Cup Hockey Tournament, which will run from August 24 to September 1 this year in Ipoh, Malaysia.

Although Pakistan is the top ranked Asian team at No 5 but recently it showed below par performance in six nation Azlan Shah Cup also held in Ipoh last month. Pakistan went down to 11th placed India twice to finish at bottom rock sixth place.

On the other hand, lowly ranked Malaysia, the World No 13 displayed brilliant game and narrowly lost the final match to World No 2 Australia.

The out of form green shirts would face tough resistance from the home side and in order to overcome the league matches threat from Malaysia, the green shirts need to prepare.

Meanwhile, other teams to compete in the tournament are Korea, India, Oman and Bangladesh, who are placed in Pool B.

With the approval of FIH, the Asian Hockey Federation AHF has released the pools. Schedule of the matches will be released by AHF after approval from FIH.
