The Sindh High Court SHC on Tuesday directed Chairman Oil andamp; Gas Regulatory Authority OGRA to file compliance report of its earlier order about removal of substandard gas cylinders and CNG kits from public transport vehicles.
Headed by Justice Maqbool Baqar, the division bench was hearing the petition of Rana Faizul Hasan seeking a ban on substandard gas cylinders and CNG kits from public and private transport.
The petitioner had contended that several people lost their lives due to the use of substandard gas cylinders in public transport, but the authorities concerned failed to take action against such traffic violations. He prayed to the court to issue directives that government verified cylinders/CNG kits be used by public and private transport to avoid accidents and blasts.
Earlier, on 28 November 2011, the court had directed federal and provincial government to ensure substandard gas cylinders and CNG kits are removed from public transport vehicles.
During proceedings, Azhar Mehmood on behalf of the OGRA requested court for time. The court adjourned the matter with direction to OGRA to file compliance report within two weeks.
