International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Thursday asked the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to provide war crimes accused Abdul Alim with police escort on way to the tribunal by his car from his house and also while returning home.
The tribunal also asked the DMP commissioner to keep close watch on the house of Alim’s son at city’s posh Banani area where the accused resides.
The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Obaidul Hassan, passed the order upon a petition filed by prosecutor Rana Dasgupta seeking security for former Cabinet member of slain President Ziaur Rahman.
The prosecutor moved the security plea after getting ‘information’ that the accused could be attacked by snipers.
Octogenarian Alim, being tried on charges of crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War, is the only accused enjoying bail on the ground of geriatric complications.
