Rashad Suleymanov-APA. “The present atmosphere resembles the one at Moscow State Institute of International Relations. We always remember and will never forget this atmosphere,” Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev said addressing the first international forum of Moscow State Institute of International Relations Alumni in Baku, APA reports.
The Head of State expressed his gratitude to his teachers.
“I want to express my gratitude to everybody who taught me, especially Nikolay Ivanovich Lebedev. I talked to him yesterday for about two hours, we remembered the years of my education, discussed international issues. I am still under the impression of this meeting. The traditions, which we attach great importance to, were founded at Moscow State Institute of International Relations under his leadership. I think that the alumni of our institute should be grateful to everyone, who strengthens and improves these traditions,” he said.
President Ilham Aliyev also expressed his gratitude to rector of Moscow State Institute of International Relations Anatoly Torkunov.
“I would also like to underline the contributions of rector Anatoly Torkunov. Under his leadership this institute has become of the leading educational institutions. The traditions I have mentioned have also been preserved in our family. I am very glad that my daughter Leyla studied at Moscow State Institute of International Relations. I hope today’s forum will give an impetus to the development of the relations among the countries represented by the participants,” he said.
The Head of State said he spent 15 years of his life at Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
“The education that I received there still helps me,” he said.
President Ilham Aliyev informed the participants of the forum about Azerbaijan’s development, achievements.
“Our economy has tripled in the last 10 years, similar growth is observed in the industrial production. Oil revenues have been distributed fairly. The major task lying ahead is the development of non-oil sector. It is necessary to improve human resources,” he said.
The Head of State said Azerbaijan is pursuing active foreign policy.
“The initiatives in this sphere are first of all connected with economic growth, energy, integration. One of the important moments for Azerbaijan was to join Non-Aligned Movement. It was an important event expressing Azerbaijan’s foreign policy direction,” he said.
The Head of State offered to hold the second international forum of Moscow State Institute of International Relations Alumni in Azerbaijan, too.
“I would like to have more colleagues among the alumni, so that we can hold the forum of heads of state and government, who have graduated from our institute. Azerbaijan is the first both in alphabetical order and in the list of surnames. We would be glad to meet you here again next year,” he said.
