Nikkei opens weaker Friday morning as investors sought to lock in recent sharp gains amid a sense of overheating. In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 70.13 points, or 0.52 percent, from Thursday to 13, 479.03. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 3.21 points, or 0.28 percent, at 1, 144.08.
