Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Thursday urged the government to ensure utmost transparency and accountability in construction of the much-talked-about Padma Bridge project.
In a statement, TIB executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said the Finance Minister on Tuesday announced a five-year plan for the construction Padma Bridge and assured people of floating tenders for the main bridge in June next.
Apart from construction of the bridge, he said the government should ensure the probe into the allegation of corruption conspiracy in the project, which pushed the World Bank and other development partners to cancel their financing for the bridge project.
“As the Padma Bridge will be constructed with own fund, the government must ensure transparency and accountability to avert corruption and use public money in the project,” the TIB executive director said.
