An explosive 147-run opening stand between Jon-Ross Campbell and Tarique White set up touring Jamaican club side Melbourne Cricket Club's crushing 117-run victory over hosts Somerset Cricket Club in a Twenty20 match here on Friday night.

It was the visitors' second successive victory, having beaten Jamaican Association by 49 runs in the tour opener in another T20 match the previous night.

Campbell went for 74, which included five sixes and six fours, while White struck three sixes and eight fours before he was run out for 87 as the pair laid the foundation for Melbourne's commanding 229-4, skipper Andre McCarthy carrying on the carnage with six sixes and two fours in his unbeaten 49.

Dennico Hollis was Somerset's most successful bowler, but his two wickets from three overs cost 46 runs.

Somerset struggled badly in reply, only 43-year-old former Barbados wicketkeeper Ricky Hoyte (37), national team slow bowler Joshua Gilbert (24) and pace bowler Jordan DeSilva (17) offering any resistance to a Melbourne attack led by Christopher Lamont (2-27 from four overs) and Tafari Williams (2-6 from two).

Melbourne will next play three 50 overs matches against Bermuda on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday as the national team prepare for a challenging eight-day ICC World Cricket League Division 3 World Cup Qualifying Tournament starting here later this month.

In that 50 overs tournament, Bermuda will take on United States, Uganda, Italy, Oman and Nepal with the top two countries advancing to next year's qualifier in New Zealand ahead of the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2015.

Summarised scores

Melbourne Cricket Club 229-4 innings closed (Tarique White 87, Jon-Ross Campbell 74, Andre McCarthy 49 not out), Somerset Cricket Club 112-8 innings closed (Ricky Hoyte 37). Melbourne won by 117 runs.
