Apple's new operating system, Mac OS X Mountain Lion, has topped three million downloads in just four days, PC Mag reported.

This makes it the most successful OS X release in Apple's history.

"Just a year after the incredibly successful introduction of Lion, customers have downloaded Mountain Lion over three million times in just four days, making it our most successful release ever," Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said in a statement.

According to CNet, Apple launched Mountain Lion last Wednesday, and priced it as $19.99. The operating system comes with over 200 enhancements, including an integration of iOS features including iMessage and Notification Center.

There's a few other upgrades. ABC News reported that the new Safari feels faster than Chrome and has a series of features that make it really compelling.

That's not all. A PowerNap feature ensures that Macs will stay up to date even while sleeping and there's a new security tool called GateKeeper to help keep malware at bay.
