32 creatively dressed World Cup fans who will make your day

These people are inspirations for the entire world.

There's some incredible people-watching going on in Rio de Janeiro right now, and depending on the quality of soccer happening on the pitch, the World Cup fans are either the best or the second-best thing about the tournament.

The fans of 2014 have not disappointed, costume-wise. We're not talking your run-of-the-mill crazy glasses and funny wig. We're not talking cute little flags painted on your face. We're talking next-level commitment to the footy cause.

Here are some of the wackiest, strangest, and most wonderful fans at the World Cup. So far.

1. Like this Iran supporter. Classic, nicely executed. Raising the bar on face-paint. Points for symmetry.

2. Another Iran fan. Really pushing the limits of body paint. Such confidence. Lady in the sunglasses likes it.

3. This England fan doesn't need body paint.

4. Nigeria fan shows us what you can do with an entire scalp as your canvass. Penmanship needs work. Should have drawn eyebrows.

5. Brazilian flag on the face, two ways. Cute kids. Giant hats for added emphasis. Meh, pretty good.

6. An understated outfit can be seriously enhanced by the right attitude.

(AFP/Getty Images)

7. On the other hand, a bad attitude can ruin a great outfit. Like this dog. Dog, you're wearing a wig and a Brazil jersey while riding in a basket on a motorbike. If you were in Sochi you'd be dead. Get over yourself.

8. Inventive hats and masks are always strong fan moves. Like this Netherlands fan's actual carrot top.

(AFP/Getty Images)

9. This Argentina supporter put a tiny Lionel Messi on his hat. Fun fact: The real Lionel Messi is tiny enough to fit on most hats.

(AFP/Getty Images)

10. These guys are repping Argentina-born Pope Francis hard.

(AFP/Getty Images)

11. A "lucha libre" wrestling mask is always a safe bet for Mexico fans. Stylish, high-impact, easy-on-easy-off for commuting purposes.

(AFP/Getty Images)

12. Sombrero's, too. In this case, worn with ponchos on ponchos on ponchos. Never too many ponchos.

(AFP/Getty Images)

13. Things start getting real when you pair the lucha libre mask with a sombrero.

(AFP/Getty Images)

14. This Honduras fan is possibly doing it wrong, but if this is wrong, I don't want to be anything approaching right.

(AFP/Getty Images)

15. Captain America is the lucha libre wrestler of the United States. Warning: this Captain America is not here to protect you and is possibly intoxicated and delusion about USA's chances.

(AFP/Getty Images)

16. The only thing more American than Captain America is this right here.

(AFP/Getty Images)

17. This guy wins at hats.

(AFP/Getty Images)

18. This guys is kind of losing at hats, if we're being honest. In three World Cup appearances, Greece has scored 2 goals and allowed 18. But they shocked the world when they won the European Championship in 2004. This fan will never forget that moment and will tape this piece of paper on his hat in honor of it.

(AFP/Getty Images)

19. This Ecuador fan's mask is so supremely amazing. If only it were socially acceptable to wear this mask in daily life, like to weddings.

(AFP/Getty Images)

20. For the truly great fans, a mask or hat won't do. There must be a total bodily transformation. Like this guy pulling for Ivory Coast.

(AFP/Getty Images)

21. And this Chilean superhero. (And clown?)

(AFP/Getty Images)

22. This guy from Ghana who's probably trying to figure out what the hell is going on against USA.

(AFP/Getty Images)

23. A fully committed meta-take on wearing a "mask": just showing up to cheer on Colombia AS the Mask.

(AFP/Getty Images)

24. This Colombia fan knew that nobody would take him seriously as a tiger unless he had tiger face-paint, a tiger hat, and a solid tiger impression. And a feather wig. And Top Gun shades pull it all together.

(AFP/Getty Images)

25. The Dutch are particularly good at the full-commitment costume. Whatever this guy is going for.

(AFP/Getty Images)

26. Them, too.

(AFP/Getty Images)

27. This fan knows that sometimes the most fully committed costume is the minimal one.

(AFP/Getty Images)

28. Even if you're not in Rio, you can still fully commit to your costume. Like these guys, who are dressed as drunk Englishmen in a London pub watching England suck in the World Cup. A classic costume perfectly executed. (Sorry.)

(AFP/Getty Images)

29. If you don't have a good costume, just hold something in the air. An inflated kangaroo, for example, if you're Australian.

(AFP/Getty Images)

30. Or, if you're Italian, a life-sized cardboard cutout of Mario Balotelli.

(AFP/Getty Images)

31. But really, you should aim to be like this little girl.

(AFP/Getty Images)

32. And if you can't pull off that level of joyful cuteness, just put on a zebra mask and call it a day.
