Japanese dance lovers urge clubs to be exempted from control law

Around 300 dance lovers rallied at a parliament facility in Tokyo on Friday calling for the entertainment business control law to be revised to exempt dance clubs from regulations under the law.

The rally took place before their group submits a petition Monday bearing 150,000 signatures in support of the revision to a cross-party league of 60 lawmakers seeking to promote dance culture.

The group began collecting the signatures last May after police took action against many dance clubs under the law, which requires such premises to be licensed and close at midnight.

Controlling dance clubs under the law is outdated and runs counter to cultural development, the group claimed.
