Crown Prince Naruhito arrived in Madrid Monday afternoon to attend a series of events to mark the 400th anniversary of bilateral exchanges.
Having flown in from Tokyo on a government aircraft, the Japanese prince went to the Royal Palace of El Pardo for the welcoming ceremony where he was received by Spanish Crown Prince Felipe.
During his sixth trip to the European country through June 16, Crown Prince Naruhito will attend a banquet hosted by Crown Prince Felipe while meeting with Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.
Although Crown Princess Masako was also invited, she refrained from accompanying the crown prince as she is receiving treatment for a stress-induced illness.
