Toshiba Corp. said Thursday it has an order to deliver electrical equipment systems for trains operated in suburban Rio de Janeiro for about 6 billion yen.
The Japanese electrical machinery manufacturer said it will supply propulsion, train monitoring and other systems for 60 trains between September this year and December 2014 to a consortium of two Chinese companies.
Toshiba sees Brazil as an important emerging market that is likely to see major growth in the coming years as it promotes a growth acceleration program including investment in electricity generation and transmission and upgrades of its transportation network ahead of the World Cup next year and the Summer Olympics in 2016.
