Abe congratulates Britain on baby born to Prince William, wife Kate

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe congratulated the British royal family Tuesday after Prince William's wife Kate gave birth to a boy Monday.

"This is great news for the world as well as Britain. I would like to extend best wishes," Abe told reporters.

Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida also offered his congratulations. "I hope this celebratory occasion will help Japanese people increasingly feel close to Britain," Kishida said.

The boy will be the third-in-line to the British throne behind his grandfather, Prince Charles, and Prince William.
