The Okinawa Prefecture capital of Naha will start offering free Wi-Fi service at major tourist destinations, including Naha airport, Shuri Castle and the Kokusaidori shopping street, from Sunday.
With 115 access points, the service will be available in English, Chinese and Korean as well as in Japanese with the aim of attracting more foreign tourists to Naha. Nearly all tourist spots are covered, according to Naha Mayor Takeshi Onaga.
In an effort to revitalize the city center, a web portal called Nahapo to be used with the Wi-Fi service will be launched at the same time with the use of global positioning system technology to offer users vouchers for nearby shops and useful event information.
