New Komeito party chief Yamaguchi arrives in U.S.

Natsuo Yamaguchi, leader of the junior partner in the ruling coalition led by the Liberal Democratic Party, arrived in New York from Japan on Sunday for a weeklong U.S. visit.

The chief representative of the New Komeito party is scheduled to meet with U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon in New York as well as U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim in Washington.

Making the first U.S. visit by a leader of the party in 10 years, Yamaguchi said before leaving Japan, "I hope to have (officials in the United States) recognize the New Komeito party's role in the coalition government."
