South Korea's chief prosecutor offered to resign Friday following an allegation he fathered a child through an extramarital affair, Yonhap News Agency reported.
Prosecutor General Chae Dong Wook's resignation came after the Chosun Ilbo, a Seoul daily, published an article last Friday alleging that he had an 11-year-old illegitimate son.
Chae has denied the allegation as "groundless," vowing to file a defamation lawsuit against the daily and carry out DNA tests to disprove the allegation.
His abrupt resignation came shortly after the justice minister ordered an inspection into the allegations earlier in the day.
Chae took office in April for a two-year term after his predecessor resigned over a string of high-profile scandals within the organization.
