Two Chinese Coast Guard ships entered Japanese territorial waters near the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea on Thursday morning, the Japan Coast Guard said.
The intrusion around the Japanese-controlled islands by Chinese government ships was the 65th since Tokyo purchased major parts of the islets group from a private Japanese owner last September.
The vessels were spotted entering Japanese territorial waters around 7:10 a.m. and moved away about two hours later, according to the 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture.
The uninhabited islets are claimed by China.
