Security forces killed Wednesday night at least ten militants who had attacked a security post in Pakistan's South Waziristan tribal area, Defense Ministry officials said.
The officials said that an armed group staged an attack on Green Ridge Post in South Waziristan at 8 p.m. local time but it was repelled by security personnel. Three security personnel were also killed.
Last month, security forces pounded some militant positions after Khajuri Post in North Waziristan tribal area was attacked by militants. Some militants were killed in that attack.
The tribal areas of North Waziristan and South Waziristan are strongholds of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, a banned Taliban group demanding the withdrawal of the army from the tribal belt adjoining Afghanistan.
An effort by the federal government during recent months to persuade the Taliban group to sit on a negotiations table has failed to make progress so far.
