Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday congratulated over the phone Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on his victory in the Indonesian presidential election and asked him to visit Japan at an early date.
During the 10-minute talks, Jokowi expressed hope to visit Japan in the near future, according to Japanese government officials.
Abe told him, "Japan's stance to support the development of Indonesia and grow together remains unchanged."
Jokowi was quoted by the Japanese officials as saying that he intends to cooperate with Japan to further deepen the countries' strategic partnership.
