Obama has female senators over to White House dinner

GlobalPost

On Tuesday evening, President Barack Obama hosted all twenty of the nation's female senators — sixteen Democrats and four Republicans — at a two hour, closed-door dinner at the White House.

While the women remained mum about what they discussed, the White House said they talked about budget issues, immigration reform, jobs, gun violence and education for children.

Obama is trying to encourage better relations between lawmakers on both sides of the aisle with his administration.

The president also spoke about the Boston Marathon bombings. The Associated Press said he told the senators he is committed to making all necessary resources available to that investigation as it proceeds.

The women of the Senate hold monthly dinners - which are strictly off the record - and when New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand told Obama about the meals, he offered to host.

As the Post mentioned, Obama has been in a bit of a "dining frenzy" lately. This is his fourth dinner with senators in just the last few months. And the second time he has dined with Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisana this week alone.
