Peter Smith, the student who attempted to glitter bomb Mitt Romney after the Colorado caucus on Tuesday, has been charged with creating a disturbance, throwing a missile and an unlawful act on school property. If convicted, he could face up to 6 months in prison and a $1,000 fine, Slate reported.

Though the practice of "glitter bombing" has been used by gay rights activists to target politicians and other public figures who oppose same-sex marriage, the 20-year-old University of Colorado student said he tried to throw glitter at Romney to protest against his "general political philosophy," not just his stance on gay rights, Reuters reported.
Romney joins a long list of Republican presidential candidates who have been glitter bombed over the course of the current election season. All three of his current challengers —Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul —have also been targeted, some more than once, Slate reported.

However, authorities could not confirm if anyone had been charged over previous incidents of glitter throwing, according to Reuters.
Smith, who was detained by authorities that night after he attempted to throw glitter at Romney, told Reuters he has no regrets about his actions.
